WATERFALL BRAID WEDDING HAIRSTYLES FOR LONG HAIR

WATERFALL BRAID WEDDING HAIRSTYLES FOR LONG HAIR

I’m so excited about today’s post. A trio of talented ladies in Los Angeles recently teamed together on a braid how-to series just for Once Wed, which I’ll be sharing over the next month. The first tutorial is a how to for a waterfall braid.

1. Part hair on it’s natural side.
2. Grab a small piece and divide into 3 sections.
3.French braid for 2-3 inches.  This will secure the “waterfall” and make sure it doesn’t fall in your face.
4. After you’ve French braided for a few inches, drop the top section of your braid.  It’s ok.  Let it fall.
5. Pick up a new section of hair from directly behind where you’ve dropped the top piece. This new piece acts as a new section of your French braid
6. Keep moving around the head.  Remember, every time you grab a section of hair from the top of your head to add to the braid, let is drop and replace it with a new section.
7 +8. When you reach the other side of your head, secure the end of the braid with Bobbi pins.
*This braid can be a little tricky.  But practice makes perfect.
Extra Tips
– You should brush your hair before braiding.  Knots and tangles make it hard for the person braiding your hair.  Might also hurt a little bit!
– Part on your natural side.  Adjust instructions according to your part.
– Day old hair is best.  A little grit is good for braids as they hold-up better. Clean hair is too slippery.
– These tutorials are written for someone to braid your hair, not intended for self-braiders.  Unless you are really clever and talented!

Half Up Braided Crown Tutorial

Half Up Braided Crown Tutorial

I have incredibly thick hair, I love it other than when it comes to doing fun things with it, it's so heavy that it takes far too many pins and usually ends up falling out, especially with it being shorter and one length! I love this hair tutorial because it stays in with no fuss and once you get the hang of it, it's super easy.

One // Grab a chunk of hair just above your ear, it doesn't matter what side you choose to start on.
Two // Braid that chunk of hair, loosen the braid with your fingers to thicken it up and backcomb the ends.
Three // On the opposite side of your hair, starting where your hair is parted, grab the same size chunk of hair.
Four // Bring across the braid from one side to the other, and braid it into the new chunk of hair, so it looks like one continuous braid.
Five // Secure the braid at the back of your head with bobby pins.
Six // Back to where you originally started your first braid, grab a chunk of hair.
Seven //  Braid it in the direction away from your face, start the braid as close to your head and tight as you can so it looks like its continuing from the other braid.
Eight // Braid it to the ends of your hair and tuck the ends behind the other braid, and secure it with pins.

Black & White Double - Slit Maxi Skirt with Pink top and Statement Necklace | Summer Outfits

Black & White Double - Slit Maxi Skirt with Pink top and Statement Necklace | Summer Outfits

Hey everyone :) Today’s post is featuring this beautiful double-slit maxi from Charlotte Russe! I am a huge fan of maxi skirts, but I’ve never owned a slit OR double-slit maxi until this one. I love that this has slits because we’ve had a lot of hot days here, and the slits make whole outfit more breathable if that makes sense. I paired it with a neon tank and a statement necklace from Shop Prima Donna. I really loved the pink-blue contrast of the necklace/shirt.
I hope you’re all having a wonderful week! Check back tomorrow for a coffee break and more outfits this week. Have a GREAT day. One day closer to the weekend.

HOW TO GROW LONG HAIR FASTER!

HOW TO GROW LONG HAIR FASTER!

About 4 years ago, while I was staring at my reflection in the mirror at work, I decided I was sick of my medium-length, boringly straight hair, and while I was driving home that evening, I stopped at the first hair salon I could find and asked them to cut bangs for me.
Which proved to be one of the biggest mistakes I’ve ever made in my adult life.
Not only did the stylist opt for that horrible 1980s feathered style of bangs, but she also cut them unevenly so that one side was twice as thick as the other, which required a lot of damage control from my actual hairstylist when I went to see him in tears the following afternoon.
It wasn’t pretty.
In fact, the only real compliment I ever got about those stupid bangs is that they made my “face look smaller.”
I’m not kidding.
So I asked my hairstylist if he had any secrets to teach me how to grow long hair FAST, but the only tips he gave me were to trim my hair every 6 weeks (which seems counter-productive to me??), take a multivitamin, and stop washing my hair so much.
Which wasn’t overly helpful.
But there are heaps of USEFUL tips and tricks on the internet that eventually did help me grow that horrible hairstyle out, and since I know some of you are just as desperate to learn how to grow long hair faster like I once was, I decided to do the research for you.
Because I’m nice like that.
Good luck!

10 CUTE AND EASY HAIRSTYLES FOR KIDS

10 CUTE AND EASY HAIRSTYLES FOR KIDS

You know how I spend a grotesque amount of time watching YouTube videos?
Well, it’s rubbed off on my 3-year-old.
Of course, she’s not spending her time searching for tips to teach her how to apply makeup like a pro, she’s not interested in learning how to make her mom ponytail look more stylish, and she certainly doesn’t care about learning how to apply flawless makeup in 5 minutes or less, but if you’re looking for the perfect toy for the 4-and-under age set, she’s your go-to person.
But that’s not where her love for YouTube ends.
Nope.
You see, I’ve been needing some extra cuddles lately, so we’ve been spending a chunk of our day watching Sesame Street celebrity music videos together at the kitchen table after lunch (note: this is a great way to get your kids to eat their vegetables!). Naturally, the novelty wears off after about 5 minutes for me, but since my daughter loves watching her furry little friends belt out “Outdoors” with Jason Mraz over and over (and over!) again, I’ve started to try my hand at French-braiding her hair to keep me from falling asleep.
Naturally, this led to an evening in front of my laptop searching for more complex hairstyles for kids to try, and before I knew it, I had stumbled upon a channel called Cute Girls Hairstyles.
Have you heard of this channel?
It’s FILLED with awesome tutorials to teach you (and me!) cute and easy hairstyles for kids, and I cannot get over how easy they are to do.
Here are 10 of my favorites.
Good luck!

7 TRICKS TO HELP YOU PROLONG A HAIR WASH AND STILL LOOK AMAZING

7 TRICKS TO HELP YOU PROLONG A HAIR WASH AND STILL LOOK AMAZING

Do you wash your hair everyday?
I do.
Not because I have nothing better to do with my time, but because I look like a greasy, disgusting mess if I go more than 24 hours without scrubbing my hair.
And that’s fine. I’m used to it.
But every once in a while, when I’ve stayed up too late the night before looking for more spaghetti squash recipes, beauty tips to make my face look thinner, and summer activities to do with kids, I just cannot be bothered to drag myself out of bed at 6 am to shampoo, condition, blow-dry, and style my hair.
The only trouble is, it isn’t until I’m frantically drowning my scalp in an entire can of dry shampoo that I remember I simply cannot pull off dirty hair, and when I catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror at the end of the day, I always vow I will never, ever, leave the house without washing my hair again.
But after some of my Facebook fans admitted they’ve gone more than a week without shampooing their hair, I decided it was time to get on the internet and figure out how to prolong a hair wash so I can free up some time to do more important things.
Like contemplate another Brazilian wax.
Kidding!
And since I try not to be selfish when I find new and exciting ways to make my life easier, I’m sharing 7 easy tricks to help you prolong a hair wash and still look amazing.
1. LEARN HOW TO WASH YOUR HAIR PROPERLY
Have you ever noticed that your hair always looks healthier, shinier, and cleaner after a visit to your hair salon than it does when you wash it yourself?
For years, I figured this was simply because stylists use shampoos and conditioners that cost more than our monthly mortgage payment, but after reading these tips on how to wash your hair the RIGHT way by Daily Makeover, I realized how many mistakes I’ve been making.
Like applying conditioner to my ENTIRE head, rather than just to the ends of my hair.
How did I not know that was a bad idea?
Anyway, do yourself a favor and give the article a read. You’ll be amazed at how many things you’re probably doing wrong!
2. DON’T SHAMPOO EVERY DAY
My hair stylist has been telling me to stop washing my hair every day for YEARS, but it wasn’t until I read these tips and tricks to train your hair to be grease-free and gorgeous by Michelle Phan that I truly understood how damaging frequent hair washing can be. Not only does it strip hair of it’s nutrients and natural oils, but it can also lead to horrible things like hair breakage, brittle strands, dullness, and dry scalp.
Yikes!
3. USE HAIR PRODUCTS WISELY
I have a tendency of over-using hair products. I just always assume that if a pea-sized amount of straightening balm is supposed to keep my hair straight for the entire day, an apple-sized amount will keep it straight for an entire week.
The only problem is, hair products can contribute to unwanted greasiness, so if you’re trying to prolong a hair wash, do yourself a favor and avoid greasy hair serums altogether, and be careful not to apply straightening balms, volumizing mousses, and curl-defining sprays too close to your scalp.
Oh, and if you have problems grasping the whole “less is more” phenomena like I do, check out Hair Products: What, Why, and How-To by Into The Gloss to find out JUST how much you should be using.
3. HANDS OFF!
Do you touch your hair a lot?
I do.
I run my fingers through it at least 1,305, 406 a minute, I’m forever tucking and un-tucking it from behind my ears, I like to braid and un-braid it while I’m reading stuff online, I twist it with my fingers while I’m talking on the phone…
You get the idea.
But here’s the thing: the more you touch or brush your hair, the more greasy it will become.
So keep your hands to yourself!
4. BUY YOURSELF A SHOWER CAP
I never thought something as simple as a plastic hat could change my life so dramatically, but after visiting my local beauty store and purchasing a proper shower cap (the ones you get in are useless), I am a completely different woman. Not only does it keep my hair dry while I’m showering on no-shampoo days, but it also prevents it from retaining any unwanted moisture, which always makes my hair look limp and gross.
I have one that’s kind of like this Betty Dain one, and it works fabulously!
5. INVEST IN A GOOD DRY SHAMPOO
You’ve heard of dry shampoo, right?
It’s an awesome way to remove excess grease from your hair between hair washes, and it also adds texture to your hair so it will hold a curl.
I prefer Oscar Blandi Pronto Dry Shampoo, but there are heaps of other options out there. Check out this awesome list of the top 10 dry shampoos by BIRCHBOX to figure out which one is the best for you.
And if you’re new to the world of dry shampoos, give this list of 9 dry shampoo do’s and don’ts by BIRCHBOX a read as well.
6. BUST OUT THE BLOW DRYER
Once I’ve applied dry shampoo to my locks, I like to spray a small amount of water to my hairline, and then blow dry my hair away from my face with a round brush. This process only takes a couple of minutes, tops, but goes a long way in giving my hair that “just styled” look I love.
7. DON’T SKIP THE STYLING
Unless you have perfect, pin-straight or curly hair, skipping a hair wash doesn’t give you a free-pass when it comes to styling your hair.
I’m serious.
It drives me bonkers when I see someone sporting day-old hair that still has the imprints of the previous nights’ sleep all over it, especially since you only have to invest about half the time you usually do to get the look you know and love.
So plug in that flat and/or curling iron and give your look a little touch-up before you leave the house.

10 TIPS TO TEACH YOU HOW TO CURL YOUR HAIR AND MAKE IT LAST

10 TIPS TO TEACH YOU HOW TO CURL YOUR HAIR AND MAKE IT LAST

Do you ever find yourself staring with envy at pictures of celebs, with their sexy, beach waves, and wishing you knew how to curl your hair and make it last more than 30 minutes?
I do.
In fact, since I wrote my 5 beauty tricks to make your face look thinner post a few weeks ago and discovered that sleek, straight hair makes your face look fatter, I have been obsessed with figuring out how to transform my dull, boring locks in beautiful, face-framing curls.
The good news is, with a little research and practice (okay, a lot of research and practice), I’ve finally figured it out, and today I’m going to teach YOU how to curl your hair and make it last.
You’re welcome!
1. IT ALL STARTS WITH YOUR HAIR CUT
I’ve always known thick, blunt ends won’t hold a curl, and that long layers work best for beach waves, but it wasn’t until I read how to make your curls stay by Hair and Make-up by Steph that I realized the health of your hair plays an important role, too. In fact, the more damaged and split the ends of your hair are, the harder it will be to curl your hair.
2. CUT BACK ON THE SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER
We all know that unwashed hair holds a style better than freshly washed hair (right?), but did you know that cutting back on the hair conditioner can also help your hair hold a curl better? No? Neither did I! All Woman Stalk tells you all about this, and more, with her tips to help you curl pin straight hair!
3. INVEST IN A GOOD DRY SHAMPOO
On the days when you’re skipping the hair wash, a little dry shampoo will do wonders in adding some volume and getting rid of any excess oil. I prefer Oscar Blandi Pronto Dry Shampoo, but there are heaps of other options that work just as well.
4. ADD SOME TEXTURE TO YOUR HAIR
My hairdresser and I swear by Moroccan Oil Volumizing Mousse, but I’ve used lots of other (cheaper!) alternatives from our local drug store, and I’ve never had any issues. Just make sure to read the labels and find something that suits your hair type.
5. PROTECT YOUR LOCKS
Before you bust out the curling iron, make sure to apply a heat protector to your hair so you don’t damage it. I really like TRESemme Thermal Creations Heat Tamer Protective Spray because it’s inexpensive, smells good, and gets the job done, but I highly recommend checking out this list of the best heat styling products by totalbeauty.com to find the one that’s perfect for your locks.
6. MAKE SURE YOU’RE USING THE RIGHT CURLING IRON
For years, I always thought the 2″ barrel curling iron was the secret to sexy, curly hair, but after spending some time over on The Beauty Department, I finally know what size curling iron I should use. And guess what? After switching to a 1 1/4″ iron, my curls look better AND last longer!
7. USE THE RIGHT TECHNIQUE
I don’t know about you, but I need to see something in action if I have any hope in heck of figuring out how to do it. And that’s why I love Beauty High. They compiled this awesome list of the best YouTube curling hair tutorials, which are full of awesome tips and tricks to teach you how to curl your hair and make it last!
8. START FROM THE TOP
I always thought it made sense to clip my hair into different layers, and start curling it from the bottom up. That’s what I do when I straighten my hair, so it just seemed like the natural thing to do. But when I told my hairdresser this, he almost died of laughter before showing me how much easier (and quicker!) it is if you start from the top and work your way down. Live and learn, I say!
9. CRACK OUT THE BOBBY PINS
If I could only give you ONE piece of advice about how to get your curls to last, it’s this: roll each fresh curl around your finger, fasten it to your head with a bobby pin, and then, when all of your hair has been curled and pinned, spray with hair spray, leave for 10 minutes, and remove the curls one by one. I learned this trick after reading this AWESOME hair curling tutorial on Cosmopolitan, and it has been a life-changer for me. It takes me LESS time to curl my hair with this method, and the end result is always bouncier curls that last all day long.
10. NEVER FORGET THE HAIR SPRAY
Always lock in your look with hair spray. I prefer Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray, but you’ll find heaps of fantastic options at your local drugstore. And don’t forget to grab a small bottle for your purse – you’d be amazed at what a little spray can do to revitalize your curls at the end of the day!

Black and Brown Chic Outfits | Street Styles

Black and Brown Chic Outfits | Street Styles

I try to buy midi skirts as often as I can because I have the hardest time finding pencil skirts and other skirt styles that are long enough for my 5’10″ frame and look appropriate for church and different things. So midis are my best friend and I love the quilted detail on this one I am wearing today.. for some reason it makes me feel like a ballerina and I have no idea why.. I never was coordinated enough to be one so I think I just look for any opportunity to feel like one even if I am pretty far off

White Lace Dress with Over the Knee Lace Boots | Chic Street Outfits

I love these boots, but so much :) It does not matter any termination of these summer wear.
Perhaps for the first time in the history of this blog asukuvien seen otherwise asukuvat two different types of hairstyles. Namely, these rags, I snuck on the go, as well as lettipäänä that his hair open. I have known problems with sleek hair, so letitkään I do not have quite the strictest possible. When the hair weighs on me (about as rare a phenomenon as a shooting star spotting), there are two options for what to do with my hair. The messy bun or a messy pigtail. In such a hairstyle I like it yet, somehow, although ideally I'm pretty hair, but always open :)
